Slovenian baritone Miha Brkinjač currently works as a freelance opera singer in Germany. In the 2024/25 season, he made guest appearances at the Landestheater Salzburg, the Theater Krefeld und Mönchengladbach and the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, among others. His most recent roles include Don Prudenzio (Il viaggio a Reims), Valentin (Faust), Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin) and Yeletski (The Queen of Spades).
From 2022 to 2024, Miha was a member of the Niederrhein Opera Studio at the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. There he developed a broad repertoire, including Marullo (Rigoletto), Il commissario imperiale (Madama Butterfly), Robert Perceval (Passionnément) and numerous musical and operetta roles. He received particular recognition for his leading roles in his fach, especially as Valentin and Eugene Onegin.
His work was influenced by his collaboration with directing teams led by Jan Essinger, Dennis Krauß, Anthony Pilavachi, Helen Malkowsky, Malte Kreutzfeldt and Beverly Blankenship.
In addition to his opera work, Miha is also active as an actor in Slovenia and Germany. For his portrayal of Jean in Marc Camoletti’s Pridi gola na večerjo / Pyjama pour six, he was awarded the prize for ‘Best Actor/Comedian’ at the 2017 Pekre Comedy Festival. In addition, he has been performing regularly for several years with the international company Povezani, which combines acting, classical music and acrobatics in interdisciplinary projects.
Miha initially trained with Prof. Alenka Slokar Bajc in Ljubljana and then at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin with Prof. Dr. Michail Lanskoi. He also gained important inspiration in masterclasses with Peter Berne, Hedwig Fassbender, René Massis, Enrico Maria Cacciari, Fausto Nardi, Dara Hobbs and Kobie van Rensburg, among others.
He has been awarded scholarships from the Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfond, the Ottilie-Selbach-Redlobs-Stiftung, the Lucia-Löser-Stiftung and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
